Many problems emerge for individuals and families facing Alzheimer's disease (AD). Individuals with AD face growing inability to work, lessening ability to engage in previously important and pleasurable activities, and an increasing reliance on others for personal care. Additionally, they may experience changes in mood and negative personality changes. For family members, emotional challenges and less time to devote to previously important and pleasurable activities occur and there may be increasing financial burdens. As the disease progresses, loss of competence increases, highlighting the need for legal protections and financial planning. Medical complications (such as falling) may occur and must be dealt with as they arise.
